Tulum: Ancient History with Modern Romance

Filled with some of most intriguing history, clearest waters and sandiest beaches, we think vacationing in Tulum is a great idea!

Tulum is a hidden treasure most people do not know about, but it is a place we (here at Precious Nuptials & Destinations) love to travel to! Tulum is a town located on the Caribbean coastline on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Similar to Los Cabos, Tulum is well known for its white, sandy beaches and clear turquoise blue water. However, a big difference between Tulum and Los Cabos is the history this town has.

This town contains well-preserved ruins of the ancient Mayans. Seeing these old structures and pyramids is truly breathtaking. Imagine building that type of architecture back then without the modern tools we have today! El Castillo or ‘the castle’ is the main building is the largest stone structure, containing the most history. The Parque Nacional Tulum (The National Park of Tulum), a coastal area filled with mangroves and cenotes (natural limestone sinkholes), are all surrounding El Castillo.

Looking for some cool date ideas? The park is rich in wildlife featuring loggerhead turtles and iguanas. In the south of Tulum, within the Sian Ka’an biosphere, you can see manatees, howler monkeys and ocelots. In the north is Xel-Ha, an eco park that offers cave diving, snorkeling, and more wildlife encounters such as coatis. Finally, take your love swimming in a cenote to enjoy something different than the typical beaches!

So book your flight to this destination and learn a something new about the history, the wildlife and the leisure here! Did we mention this is only less than 3 hours away from Houston?
