Destination Wedding Tip Tuesday :: Don’t reference your wedding as a vacation for your guests!

July 24, 2012by Precious

Your research has paid off!  You’ve picked a BREATH TAKING location for your destination wedding!

During your planning process, you went through great lengths by considering your guests and their travel needs.  Matter of factly, you feel that you did an awesome job of predetermining their needs when selecting the destination for your wedding. Air travel only requires one connection or a slightly higher rate for a direct flight.  You chose a family friendly resort with may activities and food options to fit an array of pallets. You’re ecstatic and can’t wait to share the details.  After all, they’ll love the vacation {insert record scratch} destination wedding getaway!

Here’s a minor detail that’s often misunderstood and often improperly pitched:  Your destination wedding is not a “vacation” for your guests.

Granted, I’m sure they will be overjoyed to join in on all the fun filled scheduled wedding weekend events.   However, it’s just not the same.  Vacation planning would be a bit different based on individual likes, dislikes and family dynamics.  When planning a vacation, one actually has the luxury of deciding on timing, location, mode of travel, type of accommodation, adventures, excursions, tours, et cetera.  Most importantly, they aren’t bound to scheduled activities.  Instead, they are afforded the leisure to relax and partake in activities on their own time schedule.  Your destination wedding location is already predetermined, as are the weekend schedule of events and celebrations.  Chances are, your guests will also want to go the easy route by booking the location you have already selected and will be bound to the window of travel within your agreement with the resort.  Any opportunity to venture off will be limited to breaks within your weekend schedule or their ability to extend their stay.

Your destination wedding is a time for fun and celebration!  It should be communicated to your guest as just that, not a vacation.  Destination weddings offer an awesome avenue for both families and friends to experience your union and celebration away from the traditional local wedding.   Although your destination wedding won’t be vacation for your guests, it will be fun filled time to celebrate your union.  Your guest will have a blast and totally appreciate the leisure time available to explore and relax provided within the weekend’s scheduled activities.

Here’s to your destination wedding getaway :: CHEERS!
