Turtle Island…
When you think of a luxury honeymoon or getaway, you may think of a five star resort that offers state of the art spa services, a private butler and beautifully plated cuisines on modern developed land. Turtle Island offers luxury in a very natural Fijian way.
This naturally beautiful destination sits off the beaten path in Fiji. Purchased by Richard Evanson in 1972, one would imagine that Mr. Evanson knew he a diamond in the rough. Coming from the Americas hustle and bustle, this brilliant cable television business man and Harvard Engineering graduate, arrived with a tent, refrigerator and a generator. His hard work and dedication has revamped this gorgeous 500 acre once deserted island into a dream location.
After allowing the 1980’s filming of The Blue Lagoon, Richard enjoyed seeing others appreciate the beauty of this island and allowed private access for up to fourteen couples. This limited access promotes the preservation of the island’s natural beauty.

Beverage of choice: My usual (Iced, Sugar free Vanilla, two Splenda Americano topped with half and half)
Atmosphere: My living room couch (lovely, right?) It’s always so relaxing to be home and enjoy relaxing while working.
It’s late morning Saturday, as I sip my beverage, I realize the huge task of getting myself back on track. Not only did Ike take his toll physically, but he just made sure everything was thrown for a huge loop. Realizing that life will always throw challenges our way, my goal for today is to create an outline for next week. I certainly have to restructure a few things, but all will be well and fully functional soon.
1859 Ashton Villa -- Saved in 1971
I was invited for a personal visit to Ashton Villa in the coming weeks. We have a wedding scheduled on the grounds and a luncheon reception to follow in the ballroom. The ballroom took flooding. The bright side, it’s a historical home and the Galveston Historical Foundation has contract workers busy drying the building out. The first post Ike wedding will take place in a couple of weeks. I’m confident that will go on as planned. In short, our December wedding space will remain as planned! That was a huge load off.
There’s one thing that Ike did positive. He certainly made me stop, slow down, and absorb life. The very life we are use to is not guaranteed to be the same when we wake up tomorrow. Galveston is filled with history. I’ve been pondering ways to get involved in the preservation efforts. Many structures remain standing. it’s what’s behind the closed doors that’s causing destruction. We’re considering becoming an active business member of the Historical Foundation. At any rate, donations are always key to non-profit operations.
I enjoy quiet time and the simple pleasures of life. Discovering a new pleasure the natural eye may overlook is ever so exciting is ever so exciting to me! I hate cooking. Yet, I enjoy the beauty of culinary art and finding new tastings to satisfy my pallet. I’m a reality T.V. buff that can watch a Hells Kitchen marathon all day. Yet, my life is filled with the joys of planning and executing weddings. This is our blog… Enjoy!
